A true hidden gem. Hidden in plain sight! During the recent heatwave I was heading through Keswick and spotted a blackboard advertising home made pies ( and homemade Lemonade – very nice on this day when the temperatures were just above 30 degrees ) . Why hadn’t I seen this before?
Mrs F’s Fine Food Emporium is located at the bottom of Keswick main street, if you head down from the Market Place, cross at the Pelican crossing it is on the right after about 2 minutes, just after the Bookends bookstore.
The pies are freshly made each day and todays offerings were Cheese and Tattie , and Steak. I took the easy option and took one of each. Just perfectly sized for either a snack or using as a meal. The shortcrust pastry being strong and thin around a very tasty filling.
I must admit I did eat both at once as my tea and the two pies offered contrasting flavours. The Steak pie was filled with fresh juicy cuts of tender meat with a light gravy while the Cheese and Tattie ( with onion ) pie had a slightly more carb offering. It reminded me of a hybrid between a cheese and onion and a Butter Pie.
Next time I am wandering above Keswick I’ll be popping in there for my fell-side pie snack.
I’ll also drop in for a coffee at what the Mrs F’s website says is “Embracing the Danish art of Hygge, Mrs F’s Fine Food Emporium offers the weary walker or shopper an excuse to curl up in a comfy chair, do a little mindful colouring, stare into the fire, browse through a few books, pick up a vintage collectable or piece of pre-loved clothing, people-watch whilst coiffing delicious velvety coffee roasted locally”
Tasty pies. Good coffee. What could be better than “Homemade, handmade, put together on a shoestring with ingenuity and thrift, a little haven away from the commercial tearooms and cafes in the lakes”
