I’ve discovered another true local bakery, Browns bakery of Heywood. From my own experience, if you don’t know where Browns Bakery is, in what to me was the labyrinth of streets near Pilsworth road, you would miss it. And that would be a shame.
I was greeted with the cheery banter of Val. I went in for a Cheese and Onion but with the nudging of Val and another customer evangelising the Meat and Potato, I had to get one of those as well.
I had also been keen and drawn in by all the artisan bread they had on display, but unfortunately that was only for display! I was cheerily informed I’d break my teeth on them.
I loved the warm and friendly service and was informed that the meat is all locally sourced and cooked in-store.
And the pie. The pastry was strong and held the filling well, but not too thick. The filling was visible through a couple of vents cut neatly in the lid. The taste was just what you expect from a meat and potato and appeared to be an equal balance of potato to the meat. A fabulous eat! Val also offered a serving of beef gravy but for my taste it wasn’t necessary, the pie was moist enough as it was.
I just loved the simplicity of it.
A great score of 8.9 for a great pie from a true local bakery.
