As promised the fourth and penultimate in my mini-series of pie reviews from Di’s Pies.
For the first review I started with the Corned Beef (Bully Beef if you’re American), Onion and Potato Pie, and what a good pie it was, full of flavour.
For the second review I moved onto the excellent Cheese, Onion & Potato pie.
For the third review it was the Chicken & Gravy Pie, a firm favourite in the north.
And now it’s the turn of the Lamb and Potato Pie.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this pie. You see, I’m not a fan of Mint Sauce. If I’m sat down for a Sunday Roast and it’s a Leg of Lamb, then I sit as far away from the Mint Sauce as possible. I don’t know why, I’m not a faddy eater, but Mint Sauce. Thanks, but no thanks. So as I cut into the pie it was with both anticipation and trepidation.
The pastry was light and crisp, as per the other pies from Di’s baking parlour. Sufficiently sturdy to contain the filling but easily biteable or in this case cuttable. The aroma from the pie was most definitely mouth-wateringly good and yes, there was the slightest hint of mint, but very delicate, very understated, and completely complimented the tasty chunks of lamb and potato which were cooked to perfection swathed in a rich gravy. Of the pies I’ve reviewed from Di’s Pies, this was, surprisingly my favourite. Eaten hot this was a taste explosion on the tongue, and I suspect would be just as delicious eaten cold.
Next week, my final review from Di’s Pies which will be the Hand Raised Pork Pie. Yes, I’m looking forward to sharing that with you all too. The review, not the pie, that is all mine!!!
