Returning to the theme of Artisan Bakers and Clitheroe I was wandering up Whalley Road and spotted Mark’s Artisan Bakery and Pie Shop. Although it looked a bit dark inside as I pushed open the door and stepped down into what I would imagine a bakery in Diagon Alley would be like, I quickly learnt that was because it was actually closed. As the sign had said on the door!
Oops. Luckily for me the lady was happy to ignore that little detail and rather than show me off the premises chose to serve me. I chose a Chicken, Bacon and Leek pie. It had been a toss-up between this and the Chicken Balti pie. First the price – only £2.30 for what this quite large pie, which is a bargain. It must be a feature of Clitheroe bakeries and the pies they bake.
It was a well glazed golden brown with a nice touch of a decorative circular ‘dollop’ of short crust pastry in the centre. The fresh chicken was well seasoned giving it a very fresh taste that was complimented by the bacon and the hints of leek that were apparent but not over whelming. Just the right balance to ensure that each mouthful was creamy and full of flavours.
I really enjoyed this, and such good quality, flavours and value for money. A very good 8.7

What a great review for Mark’s Chicken, Bacon and Leek Pie. It’s a superbly balanced pie and the write up captures all these flavours. I’m fortunate enough to live quite close and visit frequently. The owner is passionate about pies and constantly strives for perfection. A highly recommended stop off if you are visiting Clitheroe.
