As it’s British Pie Week I decided I was going to “Zipping up my boots, I’m going back to my roots” and take myself off to Wildblood’s of Norden.
Wildblood’s, an independent butcher, opened on Edenfield Road in July 2006 and recently moving premises to the site of the former post office which enabled an expansion of the business.
In the past Wildblood’s have provided many meat and potato tray pies, catering for milestone birthday bashes and family “dos” at the local Bowling Green so my expectations were high.
The Steak pie was the recommendation given to me. Apparently, it’s a new recipe. Well worth a go I thought. The pie is a standard rectangular shape that comes in a foil tray and has a nice glazed look on the puff pastry top and a base of shortcrust pastry. Not too much gravy, which for me was ideal as it makes perfect for a ‘pie on the go’, no collapsing, and of course if it did, well it would be caught in the tray.
The meat filling was so rich and succulent. One of those pies when you know you are eating good steak. I devoured it. Perhaps I have driven past too often because of familiarity, but after tasting this, I think I’ll be stopping to stock up for my snacks.
And then, whilst I’m out wandering the hills and dales, and I’m “Standing in the rain. Drenched and soaked with pain”, I’ll be able to feast on this excellent pie.
A very worthy 8.8
