We’ve all found the government lockdown in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic difficult, especially when it comes to sourcing a good home-made pie. So when the infinite present restrictions were eased it was time to head out locally on a foraging mission. With social distancing being fully observed I headed over to Haslingden, D.T. Law Butchers to be precise. I have been aware of them for several years and know they provide pies for some of the outlets in Ramsbottom. I’d recently heard too, that they had been voted Best Independent Business in Rosendale 2019.
D.T. Law have a good, one in, one out, system working and have split of the deli section and the butcher section of their premises to give full reassurance to the public. My purchase was one of the staples of the pie world. Yes, I always start with the benchmark. The Steak Pie.
I was going to say the ‘humble’ steak pie, however this was anything but! This was pure lean steak surrounded by a thin crust of pastry which made up a somewhat larger than normal oval size. Slightly moist, so neither dry, nor runny, nor floppy with an overfill of gravy. The meat was mildly seasoned and melted in your mouth so you weren’t left chewing on large lumps, it just came apart, very succulent. Almost had a ‘pulled’ feeling about it.
Delicious, I’ll give this pie a score of 9.3
I don’t understand why I haven’t been there before as I have known about D.T. Law for some time, but I will certainly be going back. Watch this space.
