Back in July 2019, I took a trip up to North Yorkshire with my daughter to get a little exercise and at the same time capture a few scenic photos. The area chosen by my daughter was a walk around the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, a seven-kilometre circular walk that starts and ends in Ingleton. If you are planning to go on the walk then do a little research online first as there are lots of steps up and down on the trail rising and falling over 600 feet. Sadly, it’s unsuitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs, but for those that can take it on, it’s worth it for the stunning views and a dozen or so waterfalls along the way.
As we drove into the village of Ingleton and headed for the car park, I notice a direction sign pointing to a local bakery, Seasons Bakery. So once parked up I quickly googled the bakery on my smartphone, and quickly became quite excited. Seasons Bakery opened in Kirkby Lonsdale 2007 and moved to Ingleton in 2013. Over the years they’ve built up a great reputation an impressive collection of awards. They have a delivery business across the North West of England from the bakery and shop in Ingleton and also run Baking School events (closed until the Covid19 restrictions have been lifted). If you happen that way, as we did, then I would definitely recommend a visit to the shop to purchase a selection of pies and bread. We purchased pies for nourishment while on the walk, and a selection of bread, pies and cakes, all hand made in the bakery, to share with the family when we arrived back home after our trip.
One of the pies that was a particular favourite of the family was the Pork Breakfast pie. The pie was a traditional pork pie with a boiled egg encased in the centre of the pork and pastry. The next day, we all ate our Breakfast Pies served cold with a hot cup of tea to accompany and sat out in the garden soaking up the heat of the morning sun. There was nothing fancy about this pie, but it definitely was a good start to the day for us all.
The pastry was a mellow golden colour, nice and thin and crisp so it wasn’t cloggy in the mouth. The pork and secretly encased egg filling were substantial, with very little air gap. There was no discernible jelly in the pie to fill the small gaps which in my opinion would have added a little extra yumminess to the pie. The pork was seasoned well with a peppery kick and the salt level was just right to complement the egg in the middle. The egg yolk was a bright sun yellow so no doubt the eggs were freshly sourced from the nearby farms as were all the other ingredients.
The Pork Breakfast Pie was a winner with the family and with me. A well-presented pie and a tasty breakfast treat.
