Recently we have been forced into conducting foraging missions in the East Manchester Region in search of a new pie supplier for our ‘work pie days’. This came about because of the sad news that the Crusty Cob of Ancoats has closed down. Rumour had it, back in July, that HM Pasties were going to take over the premises, but this has still come to nothing.
Crusty Cob, you will be sorely missed.
So this is how we found ourselves at Robinsons (as was New Moston Brunch Bar) to purchase a few of their Meat and Potato Pies. Unfortunately they couldn’t satisfy our usual order of anything up to a dozen. At the time we visited (11am) our purchase of 4 Meat and Potato cleared their stock (although other pies were available). Maybe we need to take our daily run a little earlier.
I was very impressed with the look. Nothing over fancy just a nice dark golden shortcrust pastry in the standard size pie foil, which didn’t stick as it was removed and equally import – didn’t expose a soggy bottom! The pastry was uniform and filled with a generous helping of a tasty mix of meat and potato. Although not a gravy based filling, there was no dryness as you bit into it. For a staple Meat and Potato – this ticked all the right boxes.
For info Robinsons main bakery is in Failsworth so I think a visit is on the cards there too.
So a very steady 8.4
