This time last year in November we held the first British Pie Association meeting for the founding members and a few likeminded individuals.
The object of the meeting was to review a selection of pies from a local bakery and also to discuss what the key focus of the association should be for 2018.
As a fledgling association we decided that the main tasks for 2018 would be build a following and to continue our quest to review and publish unbiased and fair reviews of British Pies we sampled across the U.K. (and a few more far flung places too as it turned out).
Although we haven’t quite met the 1000 followers on Facebook that we wanted to achieve we are pretty close and have also launched the Association on Twitter and Instagram mirroring our Blog and Facebook page. We’ve also created a helpful Pie Map showing where the pies we reviewed have been made, so it’s been quite a busy year.
On the day, we also sampled a few (quite a lot actually) pies from the Uppercrust Pie Company.
After several hours of tasting and scoring the seven pies chosen for the day, all of which were eaten cold, we came to a decision with the following results.
Uppercrust Pie Company | ||
Name of Pie | Average Score | Position |
Harvester | 6.3 | 5 |
Game | 5.1 | 7 |
Victoria | 5.6 | 6 |
Yorkshire Relish | 8.4 | 1 |
Lancashire | 7.9 | 2 |
Highwayman | 7.0 | 3 |
Pork, Stilton & Mango | 6.8 | 4 |
The Yorkshire Relish Pie was a clear winner. Every single member of the judging panel agreed that this was the best pie and as you can see it won by a considerable margin although there were a few staunch Lancastrians hoping for a recount!
In a few days time we’ll be getting together again to sample some more pies and to hash out some ideas as to what happens next. How we can be more informative and how we can continue to promote great British Pies.
Thank you for your support over the last year and thank you for helping to spread the word through your friends and families. Here’s hoping that we’ll be able to break a 2000 followers target by this time next year.
Best regards and thank you for spreading the word,
The founding members of the British Pie Association.
