Having enjoyed a great pie at ‘The White Swan’ in Danby Wiske during our coast to coast walk last year, we decided to return for a local circular walk culminating at the pub for a second try.
We were not disappointed..
Food was served from 6pm which meant that having arrived at 5pm, we had time to check out the 4 real ales available… (CAMRA award winner)
At 6pm we ordered the steak pie, which came with a variety of veg, perfectly done, new potatoes and a tasty gravy. The pie was a good size made with a suet based pastry (very light), which was rammed, and I mean rammed full of succulent steak, I literally mean no air gap!!
Taste was spot on, whole meal came ‘hot’ and definitely refuelled us from the calories burned during our walk…
Atmosphere in the pub was great, full of coast to coast walkers regaling their tales so far. We passed on our best wishes for their last 60 miles or so before setting off back for home…
A long way to go for a ‘pie’ but well worth it.
