Pie: Meat & Potato
Temperature as eaten: Hot
Rating: 7.8
So continuing my little mini series on the pies baked on the premises at J.W. Buckley in Uppermill, Saddleworth.
The second pie in my review is the Meat & Potato. Again I eat the pie hot, and again it was a good and filling snack. A good sized pie that would fit the bill for any visitor with a plan to head “up top” to Saddleworth Moors. The pastry looked appetising, a good light golden colour and it was cooked through. The pastry was of a consistency that didn’t crumble too easily so could be eaten out of the hand while sat on a rock overlooking the stunning Chew Valley and admiring the views. The filling was plentiful and had all the expected ingredients of Potato, Meat and Onion in that order with regard to volume of each. Some of the potatoes had fallen and become a little bit mushy (but not all as you can see from the pictures), and the mince was of a quite small calibre, so no chunks of steak in here for those that like a M&P with chunky meat. The filling was well seasoned with salt and pepper and maybe could have done with a little more of a pepper for my liking, but that is a personal preference after all.
So, in summary, it was a good pie, Maybe not the best Meat & Potato that I’ve had, but certainly not the worst either, not by a long way. If your like a bit of variety in your life and haven’t had a Meat & Potato for some time then this won’t disappoint. It just won’t blow your socks off.
