The London Bridge is our work local pub, a short walk from the office. A lovely pub set on the banks of the Bridgewater Canal in Stockton Heath, on the outskirts of Warrington.
The three of us all ordered the same main course, the Great Northern Pie Company’s Slow Braised Steak and JW Lees Ale pie, served with homemade chips, an individual jug of gravy and either garden or mushy peas………..no brainer for me, mushy peas all the way!
The pastry was nice and crisp and thankfully not too thick and melted in the mouth. The steak was incredibly tender and moist, the slow braise obviously did the trick. It was all perfectly seasoned, with a sprinkling of herbs on the top of the pastry a nice touch. I was pleasantly surprised that the pie held its form for the whole of the meal, no collapsing once the first couple of cuts had been made. The only negative I had, and it’s very minor, is that I would have expected more of an ale flavour, or a hint, but I couldn’t pick anything up. Didn’t stop me clearing the plate!!.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would definitely make another visit.
